What to Consider After Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction, or lipo, as it is commonly called, is a powerful tool that’s used to help remove any unwanted fat in a person’s body. It’s a popular procedure, but can’t be used for weight loss, as that’s not what it’s purpose is. After liposuction, a person needs to know what to do to help eliminate the possibility of complications.

What’s Needed After Liposuction Treatment

Before undergoing surgery, be sure that certain items are regularly available for after the procedure. These items include comfortable, loose clothing, dark towels to absorb any fluid that is leaking from the incision areas, pillows for resting on, bottled water, and soda crackers for nausea. It’s also a good idea to have pain medication on hand.

During the Initial 72 Hours After the Procedure

It is completely normal for bloody fluid to begin to drain out of the incision areas. It may get on sheets and clothing and continue to drain for the initial 24 to 72 hours after the surgery. This fluid is put in the area before the liposuction is done to make it safer for the patient.

It’s a good idea to wear a compression garment at all times, except while in the shower. The garments are going to reduce the swelling and reduce recovery time. The surgeon will let a patient know when they can stop wearing the garment.

Make sure to move every two hours to help prevent blood clots from forming. This is going to help keep the fluids moving in the body and help to reduce cases of swelling. There are some surgeons that will allow their patients to shower approximately 24 hours after undergoing surgery, but be sure to ask before getting the incisions wet.

When it comes to liposuction, it’s a good idea to know what to do after the procedure to ensure there are no complications. Understanding what to do is going to help minimize issues that may occur. Being informed is the best way to ensure a liposuction procedure is successful and that the desired results are achieved for the body contouring that a person wants.
